One Quarter Down…

Hallelujah… We finished a quarter of school.

There was a time when I thought I would throw in the towel too early (okay more than one time). This first 9 weeks has been difficult, stretching, beautiful.

We have changed EVERYTHING since the beginning of school… from who sits where to our daily schedule to how we do our specials to what curriculum we use (every subject).

It didn’t take me long to realize that the “box” curriculum I bought was not going to work for us, thus starting me on a two-month adventure to find the perfect fit for our family. The perfect fit came from many different places… for each kid. We now have an awesomely imperfect combination of several different companies.

I learned that I believe in mastery over spiral. I learned that I actually lean more toward classical philosophy than Charlotte Mason (which I wasn’t expecting). All in all, we are your classic eclectic homeschool.

And I couldn’t be more excited!

The one thing that has never gone away, the one thing that is stronger today than it even was in August… I LOVE TEACHING OUR KIDS! It is such a blessing! It is amazing to watch their little faces when they get something. It is incredible to know them so much better than I ever have.

It is exciting to dive into physics and chemistry with Jeffrey because he wants to learn more about becoming an engineer. It is beautiful to watch Katherine run out of her art classroom, feeling so free from expressing herself.

I am so blessed.

So as we begin this second quarter of 2014-2015, I’m encouraged. Excited even. It is all coming together and I can’t wait to see what we all learn together.

Expect to see more posts on here about our homeschooling adventures, along with reviews of some of the amazing curriculums we use. I have already met some incredible people and can’t wait to see what else God has in store for us in this journey.

One word? Thankful.
