Five Minute Fridays are hosted by Lisa-Jo, who challenges us to write for five minutes… no editing… no correcting. Just for the sake of writing. Just for the art of writing. It is a good prompt exercise that really allows us to pour out our hearts instead of our true outpouring being edited away. Today’s prompt is ‘Brave’. Want to join us? Make sure you stop by today.
GO
Her brows furrow as she lies down to attempt sleep. Fear takes over.
Oh how I wish I could take away her fear, to hide the make-believe monsters or whatever she sees when the lights go out.
She cries out, afraid… “LIGHT ON!” Okay, I understand the need for comfort. How I wish she would just trust that God is protecting her as she sleeps. How I wish I could slow her pounding heart. Silence her tears.
But is she any different than I?
My heart cowers at the things that scare me in this life. The things that frighten me to the very core. Stepping out. Trying something new. Meeting new people. Stepping out from behind the comfort of my computer.
As an introvert, I lack bravery. I lack the trust… courage… faith… to step out and allow God to do what He wants to do.
I hide behind a wall of fear and insecurity.
Oh how I wish I was brave. Maybe if Mommy was brave, Katherine could be too.
May this be the motivation that forces me to come out of hiding. To step out and do what God has called me to do… without fear of what others may say or think.
STOP

Thanks for stopping by, Marianne!
I often wonder what the scheme of the enemy, as he tries so diligently to keep us hiding in fear… but I am beginning to see… as we stand, even if courageously afraid… if we stand, God can use us to be a bright light in the darkness of the world… and that, satan fears.
Thank you for being brave to reveal your heart here, and encourage me… encourage us.
Blessings to you…
Thank you so much! I guess Satan has been working extra hard on me… it\’s been one of those weeks when I have questioned if I am actually being that \”bright light\”. Thankful for how God uses our blogging friends to remind us that He IS using us…
Oh this mama stuff can be so hard, can’t it? Loved your five-minute-post.
Thank you Jamie! So glad you stopped by. Praying for your family today!
oh, how I too struggle when I see my kids face things that I am still learning to face. Beautiful words.
Thank you so much, Tara!
Love your description of the “wall of insecurity” — that’s exactly the phrase I was trying to grab in my post…you captured it perfectly!
Thanks, Kimberly! And I LOVE the wording in your post… so beautiful!
Oh how I feel that way to if only I was braver than she would be too. The lead by example is sometimes soo hard. Prayers to you
Yes it is very hard. Thanks so much, Cassi!
Oh, sister, how many times I’ve missed out on God’s blessings because I was hiding behind my wall of insecurity. We must pray for the courage to surrender our fears and be brave!
Amen! So glad you stopped by, Katie!
Oh, I hate seeing my shortcomings in my kids!! … and I am very insecure!
Me too Julie Anne!!!
Paula, you are so right! The worry of what others may think of us often is so huge to overcome. Even to write it out – you are so brave!
I also understand how we wish we could take all the fear away from our children. I guess we can only reassure them and they must trust us, just as the Father reassures us, HIs children and we must trust Him.
Thanks for sharing your heart here today.
Also thank you for stopping by my blog last week and praying for my daughter. Your words encouraged me and I was lifted by the prayers that you were kind enough to leave.
Thank you.
Thank you so much, Kate. And I will continue to keep you all in my prayers! God can do ANYTHING!
Paula, what a great post – and so well written! (That’s really impressive – especially for 5 minutes! you go girl! :-)) I just read another post that reminded me of 2. Timothy 1:7. As I was looking up that address, Rom. 8:15 was also listed. Be encouraged, girl. When God calls, He enables! He will bless the desires of your heart to be obedient and a good example for your daughter. Can’t wait to hear the praise stories on the backside of this mountain!
Thanks, Michelle! I really enjoy 5 minute fridays.. I\’m such an editor that I usually tear up my \”heart writings\” before I post them. This stops me from doing that! 🙂 So glad you stopped by! And thanks for the encouraging scriptures…
We are going through this too, the scaring away of monsters. And yes, I too am afraid – even worse without allowing God to work in my heart! I need the constant reminder to surrender over to him, to allow him to take control instead of fearing. Visiting from Five minute friday!
Thanks for stopping by, Lauren! I remember my own fear from childhood and I just want to be able to take it all away from her… so she doesn\’t have to struggle with fears just like her mommy did. And yes, it is definitely all about letting Him take control.
