Tune-In Tuesday: Too Tender

Welcome to Tune-In Tuesday! If this is your first time visiting on a Tuesday, I hope you will find this as a place to worship together. Each week, I share about a song that God is using in my life. One that is speaking to me in whatever season I may be going through. The invitation is for you to jump in and do it, too! This year my goal is nothing more than “toward Him.” Basically, my prayer is that we will all begin to seek Him like we never have before… starting this year. So for Tuesdays, pick a song that leads you to Him.

Here are the steps:

  1. Pick a worship song, share it, and write about it… one that points your heart straight to Jesus.
  2. Link up here using the linky tool at the bottom of this post. Use the name of your song as the title of your link. (If you haven’t done this before, feel free to email me with questions.) If you don’t have a blog, you can leave a comment sharing your song. ***Please use the permalink to your post, not your blog’s main site. Because of the specialized nature of this weekly series, any links that are not specifically for Tune-In Tuesday will be deleted.***
  3. Visit other people’s blogs and let them know you stopped by.
  4. Spread the word. Grab the button in the left column and add it to your post. That way, others can link up, as well. Tweet about it… Try to get others in on the conversation.
  5. Worship! 🙂

My song for this week is Too Tender by Caedmon’s Call. Listen below (the link should open in a new window) and then keep reading…

Too Tender

You may not have heard this one before. It’s from almost 20 years ago (on the album My Calm//Your Storm)… If you haven’t heard any of Caedmon’s early stuff (before they released their self-titled album), you probably missed this one. But in my opinion, it’s one of the best songs they ever wrote. I was an early Caedmon’s nut… guild member, etc., and they are still my favorite band of all time. Their lyrics speak to my heart like no other.

Too Tender is a song about our lack of prayer. Our lack of trusting God to lead our lives. Our feet are calloused, but our knees are tender, because we try to walk it alone. Instead of falling on our knees and letting God lead the way, we continue in our own strength. Here are the lyrics just in case you couldn’t get the song to play:

Water water everywhere
Yet I complain about my thirst
The prescription’s in my hand
While the pain I curse

I know the longer
I know the harder the walk will be
With my calloused feet
And my too tender knees

Stumbled upon the truth
Wished it’d get out of my way
When I see the light
I pull down the shade

I know the longer
I know the harder the walk will be
With my calloused feet
And my too tender knees

If I were as smart as Christopher
I’d find a closet
If I were as weak as Samson was
I’d make a prophet

I know the longer
I know the harder the walk will be
With my calloused feet
And my too tender knees

The first verse speaks to me so clearly. In fact, during times when I’m down, yet still trying to hold on to my own way, I often hear those words in my head: “The prescription’s in my hand while the pain I curse.”

If we would just let go, FALL on our knees, and let God lead, life would be how He meant it to be.

Oh but my feet are so calloused.

I want calloused knees… and tender feet. Don’t you?
